Walmart raises minimum wage

Walmart, the largest retailer announced that it would raise the minimum wage for  over 500,000 of their employees to $9 an hour in April. In addition, Walmart announced plans to give employees more control over work schedules but are not releasing any new details at this time. Over the years, Walmart has been under criticism from unions and protesters for their labor practices. The company is following the trend of other retail chians such as Ikea and GAP. Currently about 6,000 Walmart employees are paid at $7.25 an hour. By Feb. 1, 2016 all Walmart associates are expected to make $10 an hour.
